Robert Bernhardsson
Professional Background and Education
ROBERT BERNHARDSSON has completed the psychology program at Uppsala University and has worked as a psychologist since February 2018, primarily within child and adolescent psychiatry, adult psychiatry, and primary care.
During the psychology program, Robert completed training in The Human Element (THE) and Development of Group and Leaders (UGL).
In February 2018, I began my PTP (Practical Service for Psychologists) in Stockholm at Psykologpartners W & W. Since I had already gained some experience in neuropsychiatric assessment from my psychology internship in 2015–2016 at Uppsala University Hospital and had written a master’s thesis on the subject of attention networks, I was quickly included in a production team developing digital treatment programs focusing on ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).
Work Methods and Experience
Within specialist psychiatry, Robert has conducted psychiatric and neuropsychiatric assessments to diagnose autism, ADD/ADHD, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, and similar conditions together with a team of specialist doctors, social workers, psychologists, and occupational therapists.
At the specialist level, Robert has also treated personality disorders, depression, anxiety disorders such as PTSD, OCD, sleep disorders, burnout syndrome, and similar conditions.
Privately and at the primary care level, Robert has been working since mid-2020 with the treatment of depression, anxiety, sleep, stress, self-esteem, and similar conditions.
When my practical service in Stockholm ended in late 2019, I moved on to specialist psychiatry in Region Gävleborg to work with both treatment and assessments. Since mid-2020, I have worked as a private psychologist and as a consultant within primary care, child and adolescent psychiatry, and adult psychiatry. My main focus is on individual psychotherapy, neuropsychiatric assessment, couples therapy, and developing the next generation of care programs.
Vision and Commitment
Unfortunately, I often encounter patients who have been subjected to an increasingly rushed healthcare system that does not see the individual and fails to provide adequate support. Patients simply haven’t been allowed to speak, share their full story, or receive relevant help. This is unacceptable.
For me, psychological assessment and treatment are about reducing suffering and increasing joy in life – about people, not about following rigid manuals or tedious routines. That is why I make sure to work together with the patient – for the patient – and set clear goals. My vision is to give my patients time and opportunities to develop effective strategies for handling life’s challenges.
As a psychologist, I also see myself as a tool in the psychotherapeutic process. Therefore, I have undergone personal therapy and further training in The Human Element (THE) and Development of Group and Leadership (UGL) to explore and understand how my own values, interpretations, cultural background, and experiences influence therapy and the patient’s experience.
In my role as a developer of next-generation care programs, I am constantly exposed to new research and treatment interventions, which allows me to stay updated in multiple areas – something essential for offering evidence-based care, meaning care that is supported by research and proven experience, which I see as an absolute necessity.
Birgitta Bernhardsson
Professional Background and Education
BIRGITTA BERNHARDSSON has worked as a psychologist and workplace developer since 1997. Her work has included both supervision and group development.
In the early 2000s, she trained as an instructor in The Human Element (THE) in San Francisco, USA. THE focuses on personal development. Birgitta has also completed instructor training in Trustful Cooperation and has undergone specialist training in Conflict Management with Thomas Jordan at the University of Gothenburg.
Work Methods and Experience
At the beginning of my career, when I was hired by companies to help workgroups resolve conflicts, I realized that I lacked sufficient knowledge of the underlying mechanisms. How could I effectively help people resolve conflicts? This led me to deepen my expertise in the field. I did this by attending various conflict management courses, training as an instructor in Trustful Cooperation, and obtaining specialist competence in conflict management for organizational consultants.
I have also created a three-day course in conflict knowledge called Collaboration or Conflict, which has been highly appreciated by participants as it combines theory, exercises, and time for reflection.
In 2017, the publishing house Komlitt released my book, Conflict or Consensus, which provides both guidance and knowledge on handling conflicts of interest that arise when people must collaborate. Since long-lasting conflicts harm both individuals and businesses, I wanted to contribute with a book aimed at leaders and managers. It took me several years to compile, but now it is finally finished.
Vision and Commitment
I have focused on how leaders can increase their self-awareness and what tools they can use to prevent, identify, resolve, and manage conflicts.
In my book, I provide examples of both my own and others’ approaches to handling conflicts that inevitably arise in life. The book is available for order at Komlitt.
